I'm neutral on the matter. On one hand, it'd be nice to see some variation underground (and it'd help make landmarks for navigation), but on the other hand, it's interesting to see the underground as this barren, lifeless and hostile place. Even the Nether has friendly (well, usually) mobs.
It's also possible this is Works as Intended (as MC-9807 implies), but I find it odd as it's generating tall grass on a dirt (not grass) block.
A screenshot of the bug, note the coordinates. There's a lava pit nearby so this may relate to MC-9807

B) Bats
C) Water
