I have the same issue currently and discovered a temporary fix. Ensure your game is windowed then when on the bright red Mojang screen, use your task manager to manually close the background launcher, that will automatically make it load. It is not a permanent fix and must be done each time from loading the game but at least you can still play while Mojang works on a fix.
