In the beginning i was confused about the system maps work, but u helped me to understand it. I was realy annoyed about the maps not keeping it's center, especialy if what you are building is always on the edge of your map (on a usefull scale). Most of the time i want to have my maps to be focused on the centre of what i'm building. For this purpose the map grid is more than annoying because it will never show what is important to you. As a cartographer the things change. The new grid is realy usefull if your intention is to map out your world, because no matter your map scale, you can always just walk off your map border and create a new map, bring it to the same scale and it will always fit right next to your previous map. This way you wil never have any overlapping regions. Its simple because you dont have to check any coordinates to know where your need to go for your next map.
So this system is realy good for mapping but not for specific locations because it leaks its focus. At this point it is hard for me to call it bugged but i still dont like it.
Right now we are missing something like a cuttingtable to cut down a higher scaled map to create maps with a center we can choose on our own. I hope we will get an option like this soon to make maps more usefull.
