Same issue here (Version 1.4.4.0 on Android 7 and Samsung J7 Prime) even though it worked fine before. Cannot load game, it hangs on white "MInecraft" intro screen indefinitely and no uninstallation or reinstallation or clearing of game data and rebooting has helped.

I followed the steps killerbeenl provided. However I reduced the steps to just this.
1) Clearing the cache and data of google play store.
2) Uninstalled minecraft and reinstalled it.
