I've also experienced this issue across two different Windows 10 computers. I've reached out to the realm owner to get the world file to share, but in the meantime, here are my observations:
Upon creating a linked portal in the Nether and exiting the first time, an adjacent chunk in the overworld appeared not to load correctly (invisible blocks)
If I exit the Nether through the same portal again, it gets stuck at "building terrain" indefinitely
I attempted to change the draw distance but apparently never found the right number.
Other players were able to enter the realm and attempted to "rescue" me by destroying the Nether portal in the overworld. This was not effective in the near term.
Sometime within the following 24 hours, with no other intervention, I was able to reenter the realm. Nonfunctional Nether portals had been created on the world surface (original portals were deep underground). This may have been due to the portal destruction, though.
I attempted to test the Nether portal again, and had the same missing chunk upon exiting the first time again, so I haven't been back.
Hope some of that is helpful in tracking this down. I'd love to make a shortcut through the Nether for everyone to use, but as of now, I'm advising everyone to stay out just in case.
