so now it lets me onto some servers then i freeze

it lets me on minecraft but i cant join servers, it keeps freezing when i try to join a server and says Downloading Terrain and stays there what do i do?

also im not very intelligent with this stuff u are saying so i dont get it

i tried to install but it said i didnt work with my version what do i do?????
