It's damage (I hope not deceive me) that this changes is not indicated on a minecraft wiki (Chunk Format for example).

I have the same problem, Mojang has apparently changed the way of placing paintings on blocks. Now, the vertical axis of symmetry of the painting is placed in the center of the block on where it is placed.
