Luis is correct. Since the 1.2.0 update, portals have not followed the rules. before the update, if you go 1000 blocks or more away from original a new portal is generated. after the merge. I have created a portal over 2000 blocks away, one facing North/south the other facing East/West. They still sync to the same nether portal. this world was created using the 1.2.0 update. My old world from version 14. still works correctly. which is a little strange.
Same issue map had a 1:16 ratio. first portal build on the far right boarder. second portal built across the ocean far left side of map boarder. They still sync to the same nether portal. This Never happened before. And I do know how Nether Portals are suppose to work.
Side note: Nether portals don't alway generate in the same direction as Overworld portals, making it very frustrating to find second portal with no sense of direction since coordinates are now classified as Cheats.
Fix the orientation and fix the portal generating proximity.
