I'm having the same issue, but it includes villagers, sheep and horses, basically any mob that you cant have sit down. Even with name tags it only takes a few in game days to despawn.

I just had this happen, and now everytime i jump back to the overworld, it kills me and says the i fell from a high place. I've reset the game and my console, still to no avail.
