This looks like natural generation of the obsidian since the intended bottom of the portal has a piece of obsidian generated where the side wall of the portal would be.
Yeah its the same for me. Sometimes it wont even say preparing or anything it'll just disappear after I click play and nothing happens.

Wait! I have found the problem. It's because the world was created on 1.16 pre-release 1 but I have been playing it on pre-release 2. I created a backup but am wondering how to upgrade it to pre-release 2.

(sorry for complaining, but im f*d up trying to make working devices. Im professional redstoner, but cant continue my work because of plenty bugs. Properly working redstone is necessary for fast and complicated devices like CPU's etc)
Umm I can adjust the sensitivity all I want but this still happens even in the max
TEMP FIX (for those who cannot get the game to work): Turn off wifi/cellular data, then open Minecraft, then sign out, then reconnect to wifi/cellular data and then sign back in and boom you are in.
Same happened with my iPad Air 2, I was able to play few hours ago but now it crashes when Xbox gets signed in, v1.2.9
ios 11.2 update is out and the update fixes this bug
