before you threw the pearl were you at the End Islands?

You can see in the pictures before i left i teleported my self to Y357 but when i rejoined i was at Y254 

not sure if this is intented

 

EDIT: It works anywhere over 256 tried Y 50000 and Y 100000

Use a grindstone and get rid of the enchantments

And as long as your above height limit then leave and rejoin, you will get teleported some where near Y 254
