What difficulty did you do this on? It is true that it doesn't work on peaceful, but it should work on all other difficulties.
I'm experiencing the same FPS drop in 30c after FPS boost in 30a/b as well. I was getting a stable 10-25fps before these snapshots. 30a/b got me up to 60, but now on 30c I'm back down to ~20.
Specs: Windows 8.1, AMD A6-4400M APU w/ Radeon Graphics (2.70GHz), 8GB RAM (6 Allocated), 1TB HDD, 64-bit running Java 8.
