REALMS-12688 504 Error When Uploading Single Player World (no mods etc) Duplicate

Comments

I have had 3 consecutive emails (12 July 2024) from Mojang advising me they have merged other 504 threads I have “up voted” into this one. Here’s hoping they resolve this issue or at least provide some in sight/PR they are working on it at all instead of just merging threads.

I have used realms for around 10 years most of which was continuous subscription. It’s a server issue and more than likely from MS Mojang server changes that they haven’t and are not addressing. I get the feeling the volume of people experiencing the 504 error doesn’t effect the money generated by Realms isn’t significant enough and therefore deemed irrelevant.

Thank you for your report!
We're tracking this issue in REALMS-12617 , so this ticket is being resolved and linked as a duplicate.

If you would like to add a vote and any extra information to the main ticket it would be appreciated.

I keep coming back to this thread to see if there has been a fix implemented or a reliable work around. Till there is a fix, no more subscriptions from me. The 504 error AFAIK is a server error. Wondering if MS Mojang cheaped out with their servers in some way to save a few bucks as a number of people starting experiencing the 504 error around the later part of April. Gotta keep those share holders happy hey.

I’m not overly hopeful of this issue being fixed.

@Alexbaron309 As far as customer support goes. This is the response to the same issue back on the 22 May for the same issue that started late April. Since then absolute nothing.

Hello again Darren,
Thank you for this context. I have further information to provide regarding this ticket.
This is a known issue the development team is currently working on that should mitigate the issue as soon as possible.
Thank you for your understanding.
Kind regards,

Minecraft Support, Lance V.

@Çağrı TAŞKIN. Cheers for the feedback. I'll give that a try.

Same here regarding 504 error in the no update. No feedback from Mojang in the Bug Tracker forums as too where they are at regarding this issue.

Apart from getting the 504 error instead of 500, the issue I am having is the same. The upload reaches 100%, verifies for about 4 minutes and in my case displays the 504 error. Another similarity is that both yours and my upload issues started around late April along with most of the 32 other people on this thread.

Along with these customer support forums, I was also in touch with the helpdesk via email. This is the last email I received on the 21st of May and haven’t heard anything since.

Just a subtle bump.. As per photo below (taken a few minutes ago) the 504 error is still a thing and needs some attention: Another week and no feedback on the status of this issue from Mojang.

Back last month on the 22nd May (nearly 2 wks ago) I received the following from helpdesk. I haven’t heard anything else since. Not a thing!

Against my better judgment I resubscribed to see if the issue has been addressed. It hasn’t! Still the same 504 error 😕

Haven’t played MC for about 5 days. Thought I’d give realms a try and see if they have fixed their server issues and now I’m greeted with a 502 error. Bravo Microsoft Mojang.

For me, the upload 504 error occurred around the 23rd of April. I’m guessing last time I had a successful upload would have been just prior to the original poster’s bug report.

Wondering if Mojang (Microsoft) made a few internal server changes around that time that effected a number of Realm users like us.

Join the rest of us. Most likely you will be told your world is corrupt instead of issues with the servers.

I’m a little saddened by the last email I received from Mojang Help Desk that in my opinion gave up on my Realms issue claiming it was due to a corrupt save. The save in question works without a hitch in single player. I also drew the help desks attention to the fact that ALL worlds I tested (not just the one I want to play) DIDN’T upload.

The actual world I wanted to use on Realms is my family server that I play with my daughters. I have as a result unsubbed from Realms and will check for further updates if a fix is found. Till then, no further payments.

In my opinion, this is a real corporate “cop out” and feels that way in the wording. I would have at least expected a dedicated helpdesk would reach out and request a copy of the “corrupted” world via google drive or One Drive bearing in mind ALL saves uploads come up with the same 504 error, not just my family save.

Anyway, considering a third party server which is something I didn’t want to do (please note, I have excluded the posters name).

The corporately worded post from the Mojang (Microsoft?) helpdesk is as follows:

Thank you for your patience.
Our team has reviewed your case once more, taking everything under consideration. The conclusion has been made, and it's that the world seems to be corrupted.
Since you have mentioned using Amulet, and the troubleshooting steps do not work, it's possible that the world was modified and corrupted throughout this process. Moreover, when a world is constantly updated, it can also get corrupted, and the world in question 10 years old.
Since Amulet is an independently developed third-party application, we can’t troubleshoot because we didn’t develop it here at Mojang. I can provide you with some resources that will help you identify and contact the developer for support:

  • Additionally, please, allow me to explain that your Minecraft save data―which includes things like your worlds, inventory, dropped items, and skins―is stored locally and is not attached in any way to your account. Mojang does not store this information, meaning the data only exists locally on your device. This means that, as much as I would love to assist you, we are unable to recover that data if it has been lost or corrupted.

I highly recommend reading our guides that review how to manage your data and game storage in Minecraft: Java Edition

I know that this might not be the answer you were hoping for; however, I thank you for your time reviewing this matter with us, nonetheless.

    Sincerely,
    Minecraft Support,

Edit: 23rd of April (not May)

Thank you Ilexand for sharing. I tried this twice and unfortunately it didn’t work. This fix however for me work with disconnects where you lose about 20-30 mins worth of work while in the realm.

Hopefully this work around will help others. In my opinion, I believe this issue is a Mojang server issue, not an end user issue. I have had this issue now since around the 23rd of May. I’m really not getting any value out of my subscription.

Java MC on Windows 10.

So far I have tried the following to upload an updated single player game and only receive the 504 error with a couple of 401 errors in response.

  • Used CMD to flush dns cache and a few other things as advised.

  • Turned router off and on.

  • Logged out of MC launcher and back in.

  • Moved my Save folder to desktop and uninstalled MC, the MC launcher and anything else MC related from the settings. After doing so I also deleted ALL MC related folders in the appdata/roaming folder. Reset PC and reinstalled MC and Save folder from desktop.

  • Temporarily removed ALL saves from the save folder leaving only one save to upload thinking there may be a gig limit in the saves folder. Nope, 504 error again.

  • Tried to upload a small world, about 100ish meg as opposed to my 1.6 gig world. Nope 504 again.

  • Updated graphics drivers (Nvidia) after an update 25 April.

  • Ensured Windows Firewall allowed (ticked) both private and network for Java, Minecraft, Minecraft Launcher and also “Open JDK Platform Binary”.

None of the above made any difference whatsoever.

Other than doing a crazy moon dance ritual running around naked in the garden, I’m all out of ideas.

As previously mentioned. I have been using Realms since 2015. Most of that time I have had a continuous subscription. Had a few odd quirks but nothing that a second try wouldn’t fix. This however is unacceptable. 504 errors are usually server errors not from end users.

After numerous 504 errors and the occasional 401 error, the aftermath to the “playable” realm is always the same. When entering a realm post 504 error, chunks are replaced mostly by the original seed. It’s very sporadic what happens to the realm after each 504 error as different areas are erased. However it’s mostly areas where the newest chunks have seen changes. Oddly some replaced chunks have been replaced by biomes/features that are not part of the original seed.

It would be really cool to use the Realms service I am paying for in the manner I expect it to behave. Stable and as advertised. Have not experienced these issue a few years back when I used to play regularly with family.

I understand that this ticket has been merged with another ticket but giving it a “resolved” status implies that the issue has been fixed which is totally not true.

Edit:

I thought I’d also include the upload log found in this world’s folder:

Experiencing the same issue. Thought it might be the world I was uploading but had the same issue with a world that previously uploaded without issue a few days ago. Previous recommended fixes from this sight did not help.

As per other posts. On reaching 100%, MC verifies the upload and after about 3 minutes the 504 error comes up. Closing the realm prior to upload doesn’t help, neither does flushing DNS, rebooting the PC and router and half a dozen other attempts to upload my world.
