Ok I tried the Mojang Support Center, I've tried the Minecraft Forums, I've even tried ask.com and youtube. Nobody knows how to fix it. I've tried erasing all of my minecraft stuff and redownloading it. that didn't work. Please for what little sanity I have left, tell me what file writing permissions I'm missing so I can find them.

whats really weird is I can Downgrade to 1.2.5 and NOT have this problem.

I know Its been some time sense I've Made this Report. But the problem remains the same I really need help with this.

Sorry I did seem to be a bit unclear.
what I mean is I need more detail on what exactly I'm missing.
I'm not really that good with programs and files. So I need to know what I need and how I might get it, if its not to much trouble I would like some aid.

I have everything the launcher gave me. and I don't have the same problem when I downgraded.

I don't see how that could be it. at least on my end anyway. plus it still leaves the question. Why is only affecting versions after 1.2.5? I downgraded and never had the problem in the older versions.
P.S. I'm not ruling out that a virus scanner could be it. I just don't see how thou.

It wasn't the message. I was hoping I found why some peoples worlds rollback randomly.(including mine)
It started sense 1.3 and that was the only thing I noticed that changed sense 1.2.5
if this isn't thou what could it possibly be?

riddle me this then, why is the save message after pausing the game gone?

plus your test was a server, I'm talking single player, your argument is invalid.

I believe the cause of the bug may be the absence of the autosave function when pausing the game, that was the major change I found between 1.2.5 and all the later versions.
I'm hoping to get a confirmation on this. If needed I'll make another thread addressing it sense its technically a separate Bug. in the mean time the this thread has been classed a duplicate of MC-2548. so if you wish to help report on the bug you'll have to go there.

I want to know if that was the cause of the bug. (look at last comment)
it would also explain its random ratio, sense the game is coded with another autosave that activates every 30 minutes while playing, that could be why some of what you build stays intact while the rest is deleted.

I'v done some digging and I may have found what is causing this Bug.
Ever sense 1.3 the autosave function when you pause the game went missing. I downgraded to 1.2.5 and I never had the world save bug on it (because the autosave was still on that version) but when I went back to the latest version I started to get the bug again. there has to be some connection. As far as replication of the bug I found a video of it not to long ago. I'll try to leave a link.

anywhy its nice to know that Mojang knows that the bug exists. that gives me a little relief.
