This has been happening to me in SSP and SMP. Before 13w05a and 13w05b, I could run smooth lighting, but now it causes me a lot of jitery lag.
It reminds me of when they tried to fix lighting last time 😞.

The game started lagging, especially when I went into the nether in my superflat world (redstone ready).

Then this happened.

World is no longer playable. 😞

AHAH! Someone else got that! I'm glad I'm not the only one!

This has been happening to me since 1.3! (it got a LOAD better when they fixed the animal-eating-wood glitch, but it still flashes a randomly in the hotbar in the 1.4 Pre-release)

For me, it tends to happen when there are a lot of entities in my vicinity. It also seems to only happens on SSP.
