Happened to me several times on different realms. It is probably caused by huge amounts of blocks that connect to one another - fences and chorus plants. It always happens in a certain area where there is a lot of these blocks. I have been experiencing this bug since 0.15 and it's still here in 1.2.11.

Yes, I can confirm it still happens in the latest version, I reproduced the glitch earlier today on a realm. I also have a theory on what causes it. A few months ago I said I thought it was caused by blocks that connect to each other. Further thinking about it (and experiencing the issue many times again) I am convinced it's caused by blocks with complicated block models. Fences, chorus, fence gates, walls, hoppers and some others. In large quantities they make this issue happen every time you load a certain area. The glitch also strikes randomly once in a long time (for me it was like 4 times during the years it's around) and it can be caused by massive amounts of particles (for example if you put like 2000 torches in the area of view).
