@Credo, check the activity stream for this issue, and you'll see that Dinnerbone closed this for the reason "Works As Intended". Understandably confusing, though. In any case, you bring up exactly the two points I'm trying to emphasize-- first, that if this really does work as intended, then someone at Mojang thinks that adding to jump height without also modifying fall damage calculations makes perfect sense (it doesn't); and second, how can someone say that this isn't part of a bug when many people are complaining of faulty and erratic fall damage under all sorts of circumstances?
What it seems to me is that we have a little bit of both issues going on-- someone neglected to recalculate fall damage when jump height is increased (or somehow thought that that was a good idea), and fall damage is acting wonky in general.
Surprised to see Dinnerbone says that this works as is intended, especially considering the fact that fall damage in general is faulty in 1.4. Disappointing as well, makes Bunny Hop much more limited.
I can confirm this on both local and online, and sprinting is not necessary to experience this bug. I have a more detailed explanation here: https://mojang.atlassian.net/browse/MC-609. This is also available under "Issue Links". It's bad enough online, that when under the effects of "Jump Boost II", you can take damage just from jumping straight up and down. I hope that the confirmation status can be changed soon, so that this may begin to be resolved.
Right, at three blocks distance, you do take fall damage, I'm just surprised that jump height would be increased without also increasing distance for fall damage. If it were intended, then this greatly limits Bunny Hop's utility, and even makes it an ability to use with some caution.
Oh wow, I can confirm this, Minecraft's been at the "Converting World" screen for about 10 minutes now and not responding. Locked up alright!
