I may have discovered a solution for Linux. I'm currently using Arch (5.15.3-arch and 5.15.3-zen) with KDE. What I did was install the Seahorse keyring manager (it will show up as "Passwords and Keys" in the application menu), changed the "Default keyring" password to blank (open by default, no password. Click the lock) and deleted the Mojang/Minecraft related entries within it. Since then, the launcher automatically logs me in again, no prompt at the account selection screen, no error message, just takes me to the menu to start playing!
