Cleared out all iterations of minecraft, reinstalled.
Can now play 1.12.2 but no other versions.
No longer getting the realms module missing error since I turned off Realms notifications and deleted my expired realm, however menu screen still launches when using a snapshot version.
Uninstalled and reinstalled Minecraft, tired to load up pre rel 9 and received an error: Realms not supported in snapshots. Screengrab attached.
I'm now unable to play any version, including 1.12.2

No, 1.12.2 is fine, as are all pre releases up until 8 and 9. which are the only two that have the issue.
Of course I'm happy to wait for full release... but just hope this issue doesn't happen with the full release which is why I raised it on the off chance others are also having similar issues and cant even get to the point that they can choose a world.
I've also tried to turn off the JVM arguments, to no avail - same issue, it crashes.
Also I set up custom logging - which isn't actually logging anything either, so I cant even provide you with that.
There are no hs_err_pid files in my .minecraft directory.
I have uploaded another launcher log, which contains the existing two attempts (in the older log) and then attempts in earlier versions.
I've rebooted my system to no avail.
@violine1101 there is no crash report.
The launcher log IS the full launcher log, it just has two attempts rather than the hundreds of attempts with other versions that worked.
I tested pre 6 and pre 7, and it worked without issue, however both pre 8 and pre 9 have this issue.
This sounds similar to my issue MC-133667
