Still in 14w32d.
It's still the case in 14w20b.
Since the creation of Smooth Lighting.
Screenshot in MC-3553 is still up to date.
Clicking Presets then Use Preset will have the same effect.
So it's not a bug, ok.

I searched for "view-distance" and anything related to the server or the "server.properties" file.
I was convinced that it was not a singleplayer issue... I should have test it a little more.
