For the 1.8 pre-release 3 I have everything turned down to lowest quality and frames set at 60. When moving around the world frames are 60 then drop to 0/1 for 3-5 sec., then jump back up to 60, and then repeats. Also when standing still and turning slowly the fps randomness happen. The fps drops make the game unplayable.
When looking straight-up and moving fps is fine.
Minecraft 1.7.6 pre-release 2 has no problems with editing the more world options.
After updating java to latest version the problem still happens.
Development Consule of opening launcher, going to create world, then to more world options, and then closed Minecraft.
I've only have the 64-bit version of Java and have had this problem with every 1.8 snapshot.
Turning off VSync and setting everything else to max has fixed the problem in pre-release 3 though.
