A few weeks ago I had noticed Minecraft accidentally duplicated itself, and I deleted one of the two but then the launcher would only say the error message, same as the poster here. I've tried deleting all the files and redownloading Minecraft over and over again. When I use "Show Package Contents" on the Minecraft app downloaded from the dmg there's no file called "launcher_log.txt", but there is one under the Minecraft>MacOS file called "Launcher" and the message for when I try to log in is
[0308/184055.650047:WARNING:url_request_job_manager.cc(90)] Failed to map: mojang://launcher/index.html
since deleting Minecraft doesn't work I suspect there is something still on my computer that is corrupting it or it may be an issue with my version. I still have High Sierra and have not updated to Catalina, if that information helps. If there's anything else I need to provide or anything else I can do please tell me.
Update: I updated my computer and was finally able to find the minecraft folder that contained the actual game data. For some reason I couldn't locate it when searching minecraft before but it worked now. Deleted it and redownloaded the game and now it works smoothly. Hope this helps anyone with this issue
