Similar situation for me. Turns black a half second after I join/create a world. I've tried using older versions of Java 8, I've tried the built in version, I tried 9 for kicks even though I knew it didn't work. I tried resetting video card settings, minimalizing them, and tweaking them. Tried various video settings in game. Nadda. Everything else about the game seems to work; I can hear myself breaking blocks and grass. When I hit esc I see my cursor, but the screen is still entirely black. I manage to click Save & Exit buttons by memory.
