I've tried Neil B's fix and it hasn't fixed the issue. All 6 of us that play on my realm started experiencing the issue at the same time, and none of us changed our password recently.
When will this be fixed please, Mojang?

 I am the owner of the realm. I have 5 guests with the same issue as me.
4 of us are using windows 10 PCs, one is using an iPad
Steps to reproduce:
I'm running 1.16.201
On the main menu screen in minecraft, I click on my realm (named Pandemonium).
The purple loading screen appears saying "Loading resource packs" and a 'cancel' button. I do not click this button.

EXPECTED:
After a period of time, my realm loads up in the last place my character saved.

ACTUAL:
Error message 1 appears saying "Unable to connect to world. Please check your internet connection and try again." After a second or two, error message 1 disappears and is replaced by error message 2:Â "Unable to connect to world."

I have tried Jadon's work around, but this doesn't work either.
I have spoken to Microsoft customer support. Their representative Jarley R tried everything they could to fix the issue, but came to the conclusion that the problem lies in the game and there is nothing that can be done on their end. @bugsbugsbugs thank you finding the ticket - I was having trouble but I knew I couldn't be the only person experiencing this bug.
I've briefly read through the MCPE-21416, and I was wondering if there is any further info I could provide that might help the devs (for example if the villagers compounds were on chunk borders).

It was definitely worth a shot, but thought someone should comment that it may not fix it for everyone, in case Mojang closes this ticket again.
