For the birch saplings in question, I had a large open field, without tall grass. Planted over 30 birch saplings. None of them would grow, even after using bone meal. In the same field I planted oak and spruce saplings. The oak and spruce saplings grew well.
Note: Before creating this issue, I searched for "birch", since this only involves birch saplings. There where no "birch" sapling issues previously logged.
