Perhaps they tested with a different size device screen where it wasn't harder to see?
It seems odd that it is inconsistent between the hotbar and the inventory though. Perhaps they made a late tweak in one, but overlooked it in the other?
So this issue can be closed (I can't figure out how to do that myself)
OK, it turns out it is down to the laptop having some setting that prevents touchpad clicks and keyboard presses at the same time. External mouse works fine.
I've had a similar issue.
I started off with sound, but after a while the FX and Music sounds disappeared. Volume for both on full in the settings.
However the sound on the Minecraft menu (button clicks) still worked, and all other programs produced sound OK.
Exiting and starting Minecraft again didn't resolve the issue.
I have since rebooted and the sounds have come back.. for now.

Jose, The issue is a duplicate. Also the issue here was fixed a couple of years ago. If you're now having sound issues it must be a different / new reason.
