Yes also happened to 0.5.0 to me if i remembre correctly

Confirmed only in Survival (textures are messed up after destroying.)
Afterwards you can only place it upside down.
Btw wood slabs can only be broken with pickaxe.

Oh and here is other pic proof

I can confirm this bug (yes i am iOS) for the following staircases:
Stone Brick Stairs: Transform into mossy stone brick stair and the cracked stone brick stair
Quartz Stair (which btw has no proper name): Transforms into chiseled quartz stair and pillared quartz stair.
Sandstone stair: Transforms into chiseled sandstone stairs and smooth sandstone stairs
