I understand that, it's a useful tool. But the fact that the piston 'head' counts as a redstone block when extended is the annoying part. It makes it so you cannot put pressure plates within the vicinity of it. I do wish that part could be fixed, with the current piston or a new one.
Someone please fix this glitch, whether it is intentional or not the majority of us find it annoying.
The bug you are pointing me to says "works as intended" do you know why Mojang would leave something like this in?
I am not, when in creative it says "Cannot be combined with "X""

This kind of setup doesn't work due to this bug. when the piston extends, it wont deactivate due to the pressure plate now powering it.
Below is the piston pushing the block level to the pressure plate.

Even if the signal cuts off, the piston stays in place due to its extended head counting as a redstone block type.
