Thanks for the detailed workaround, Joy! 

I tried your method and was able to kind of get the game to work.  I get an error, "It appears you don't have a license for Minecraft. Make sure you have downloaded and installed Minecraft from the store."  I tried a few different dates (we purchased the game last December) and nothing worked. 

Thanks for the suggestion, though!  I hope it works for others!

Same issue on a Galaxy Tab S2.  I have also tried all the available troubleshooting, etc.  The game works fine on my son's tablet (I am pretty sure it is a Galaxy Tab A or E)
