Same on XBOX in 1.2.0.20, I just found 10 wolfs in a pit together with lots of cows, pigs and chickens right next to my cow/pig farm, which is overflowing without me doing much. Also, there's so many horses now that finding 10+ within 3 minutes isn't really anything special anymore.
Doesn't it work at all? I tried to reproduce this and found the following:
In 1.2.0.22, when I have both coal and charcoal on me, the recipe book will automatically use the coal first. If I then craft torches until I have no more coal, the torch recipe will not automatically switch to charcoal but appear uncraftable. Now, I clicked the torch recipe again and it updated to charcoal and let me craft torches from charcoal.
Have you crafted torches before trying this? One of your slots is hidden, so I wasn't sure if there might be torches underneath the label.
