The spawn rate in the beta is ridiculously high for both animals and hostile mobs. You can't walk outside at night without a massive amount of hostiles chasing you, and even during the day it's not safe because of creepers that have spawned all over the place. And there's no need to breed animals anymore; you can just run outside and slaughter the entire range of things that has spawned in the active area, and within a few minutes there will be a new batch to start all over with.

Same on XBOX in 1.2.0.20, I just found 10 wolfs in a pit together with lots of cows, pigs and chickens right next to my cow/pig farm, which is overflowing without me doing much. Also, there's so many horses now that finding 10+ within 3 minutes isn't really anything special anymore.

I have the same problem - there should be an option to control the spawn rate (low, medium, high).

I suggest using a mob cap system like on pc which will make mob farms incredibly efficient and good while it won't spawn too many mobs around

In a creative mode world, I /killed all mobs before performing an unrelated experiment. I then focused on the experiment for about 3 minutes. When I looked up, I was again surrounded by large numbers of mobs within the nearest chunks. I think the problem is that pack spawning is happening too frequently and/or generates more mobs than it's supposed to. I was unable to reproduce this behavior after several tries so it appears to be a low probability bug, but when it happens it generates dozens of mobs all at once.

Yes way too many mobs! I used the useless xray addon and there were 100's of mobs underground & no spawners! On pocket edition I cannot even move because so many mobs. On windows 10 its better but too many mobs.

This is still happening in 1.2.0.25
Auldrick may be on to something with the pack spawning, as it seems the animals/mobs spawn in groups. With animals there will always be several, and often times adults with a baby – cow, horses, donkeys especially. I've taken to killing horses and donkeys for leather – something that I'd never do before because they were fairly rare-ish.

I didn't see it in the changelog, but this seems to be fixed in 1.2.0.31.

I need to spend some more time in game to say for sure, but with my first quick tests it does appear to be fixed in 1.2.0.31.

What do you mean? This IS build 9. And there was nothing in the changelogs about this issue. The closest fix was specifically to creeper and ghast spawns.

My thought was they fixed it when they messed with the other spawn caps. In any case, it definitely seems better now.

I concur, the spawn rate seems ridiculously high in normal mode after the 1.2.3.6 update - it's not uncommon to be surrounded by 5 or 6 creepers during the middle of the day... more than I've ever encountered even in hard mode prior to the update.
Also, the game lags severely now when feeding animals or especially at night in villages, which might be related to the increased spawn rate of Mobs outside the village trying to get in.

I seriously don't understand what is going on. For me (ever since the 1.2.0 version on Windows 10) I had the exact opposite problem, specifically for the case of mob farms. In fact, I get on average 40 times less loot from such farms in the Windows 10 edition when compared to the Java edition (no typos, I really mean 40 times less). At night too, I do not really appear to get a hell lot of mobs to spawn around me...
