It actually does work, you just need a 64 bit OS for 1.13 and beyond (currently not available for Pi4). https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=243946

This could be an issue with the amount of memory your computer has vs how much minecraft is trying to use. If you have MC use up less RAM, it might work.
