Ok you seem to be having a different problem to me. My hunger depletes faster than normal, yes, but not as fast as your describing.

Ha... That number is MAX_INTEGER or Infinity... Depends on what you prefer.

Ahh! I thought I was going crazy... Never eaten so much steak in my Minecraft life. It does seem to be an intended feature... What it looks like is that the saturation value has been halved if anything.

As a quick fix while we are waiting for an update. Make a Twitch account and link it to your mojang account. I did this and was able to use my volume keys, etc.

I was having this issue as well. This may be unrelated but it resolved itself after I integrated Twitch & relogged. May be a possible solution for the mean time?

I believe it's because it's not a melee weapon. It's like breaking blocks with a bow (or hoe) not using durability.
