Had the same problem, but fixed it:
in the Minecraft, launcher go to installations
go all the way to the right on the latest release tab
you will see "play" and 3 dots
Click on the 3 dots and then click on the duplicate
finally, run the game on the duplicated version, should say Latest release (2)
