Updated to Kernel version 3.8.0-30-generic and it's still hanging after OpenAL initialisation. Something else must have changed between the versions to be causing this...
I bought myself a new computer with updated and modern hardware but I still have this issue when running my preferred version of Linux. I'm going to suggest this is likely an issue with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS based distros and I'm going to try to update the Kernel to a more recent version and see if that solves the issue. I'll post the results back here.
Okay, if it works on the Mac side of things it's likely not a hardware incompatibility issue (driver issue perhaps?). Unfortunately I don't have Windows to test but my machine is a 5 year old Acer Extensa 5630EZ so it's unlikely to share any components with your Mac. I'm running Elementary OS Luna (based on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS).
I've just tried the game using both Open-JDK 7 (what I normally use) and Oracle's Java 7 and both have the same issue, using any form of Java 6 results in a crash and a return to the launcher. From watching the System Monitor it shows Java using 98-100% of the CPU during this time but that can't be right because my system doesn't slow down that much. My system is up to date with updates from the Update Manager as well.
Hi, I have the same issue (as I'm sure you know). Turning off the Mipmapping doesn't help, it still takes just as long to get into the game. Also not sure if related but when the Quit Game button is pressed it has another really long waiting time before it closes to the point where it's faster to terminate Java via the terminal.
@Anon Ymus, yes it's the same issue as MC-32251 . I timed it and it just took 21 minutes to get into the start screen. This bug report can be deleted or marked as duplicate or whatever.
@Kumasasa - I waited a good 10 minutes while I watched some Youtube videos so it had plenty of time to start up. It doesn't go past that point.
@Anon Ymus - That seems to be the same issue but I don't ever get into it.
Not had this issue before but it's pretty bad in snapshot 14w08a. Tried turning off the Antialiasing in the Nvidea settings but to no effect.
