Please fire this Anon Ymus dude as a moderator, he only seems to want to tell people that they're wrong and it works, and seems to think it's not okay for those of us who have supported this project for over a year now to be angry when WE ARE IGNORED.
IT DOES NOT WORK.
NOT RESOLVED.
So you made this Anon guy a mod because he doesn't like people being angry at Mojang?
Wow. I can't believe I bought four copies of this game for friends.
Also? I don't even get connection refused - ever since 1.4.7, we can't see LAN games on our network, nor can we connect to them. This is ridiculous - maybe hire a network programming expert to fix the issue? I mean, with the millions of $$, you can get a thousand of them for a couple of weeks.
Either answer, Mojang, or start giving out refunds. This is ridiculous - you've now made millions of dollars and can't seem to get your head out of your ass in the support department. Fix it - it's been FAR too long for something like this to go unanswered. It's especially apparent that it's an issue on your end, because of the large number of duplicates you keep closing.
Fix the issue or say why you're not or GIVE US OUR MONEY BACK. We've more than paid for the beta period and dammit, I'm sick of seeing so many people having issues and nothing happening about it. Seriously - the excuse of beta is beyond stupid now, you've got millions of customers and millions of $$.
EDIT: it was requested I clean this up; I'm reporting that this bug has taken too long for there to be NO RESPONSE. I'm also expressing that this bug is not fixed, per their claim. This bug MAY be related to Java version, but if so, as a Java developer, I know it's a bad idea to have functionality that is so version-dependent on Java that it breaks for some people with a minor revision update from Oracle (since you seem to think it might be at fault). It's bad, and whomever is in charge of monitoring this bug list should feel bad.
I'll apologize for the harsh tone, but not for the sentiment. This has gone on for multiple versions, and seems to be getting worse. I had 4 computers in my house that could work fine on a LAN. Without any updates to Java, the latest update to Minecraft has now ADDED those computers to the list that can no longer join LAN games. This is not an improvement.
How about another option then, REMOVE the feature until it's working?
Grum, thank you for providing a response. I've looked at a number of tickets about this issue (most of them just closed as resolved, despite folks screaming that it's not), and this is the first response I've seen from Mojang. Note I've said "seen" for those who will jump on me with links to other responses.
When this feature was first added, it worked great in our household. As of 1.4.7, we can no longer see lan games on our network. Nothing on our network has changed, and the computers themselves have had the firewall disabled, etc.
Is it not possible this is a specific Java patch or something specific to Windows 7? I've seen more people with my issue running Windows 7 than anything else.
I'm on Win 7 64-bit, and I usually run Java 1.7.0_03 64 bit (I do some Java build scripting for work, so I also have 1.6.0 installed, this too broke after 1.4.7).
