I Completely agree. Labeling what appears to be a side effect of Mojang “moving movement handling to the server” as “working as intended” (paraphrased directly from user and community manager “Mega_Spud” 's response to a similar post regarding the horse movement issue [ MCPE-231719 ]) is an inexcusable band-aid type response from them about a problem resulting from a lack of understanding of how this decision will negatively impact how the game feels and plays. This will also negatively impact future interest from the player regarding to interacting with mounts/horses.
I have a Minecraft world on a realm that is very special to me, and the main transportation mode used across this world is (was) horses. After logging on again and playing after the most recent update, I knew something was wrong. Horses don’t just feel laggy or have delayed responses, they are practically unusable in their current state. When it takes half a second of delay to change direction, or to make the horse jump, how is the player supposed to reliable navigate any sort of area within the game world confidently?? Especially when confronted with danger, whether that danger is a mob or especially, a ravine with lava at the bottom. If the main reason horses feel this buggy is a side effect of allowing them to swim on water, will they be able to swim on lava to make up for how terrible the input lag is??!!
Honestly when you think critically about this situation it starts to unravel even further. Horse movement has been essentially the same for a decade and, while still being slightly inferior to other transportation methods, felt good to use. This update was supposed to incentivize using horses as a viable mode of transportation more often, even going as far as to add a new type of horse into your survival world without cheats (zombie horse,) and in fact will do the opposite. Players now more than ever will feel de-incentivized to use horses. Personally, I have never wanted to use horses less than I do now, and that should speak volumes considering that they are the main mode of transportation available in my world. They were already practically in last place between all the other transportation modes in game in terms of popularity, and will most likely stay that way unless these movement changes are reverted. Granting the ability for horses to float while mounted does not outweigh butchering their movement and how it feels for the player to interact with them entirely.

Mojang, I hope you’re listening.
