@Toshimichi, I apologize for calling Ur mod random, I assure u I didn't mean it in a negative way, I have corrected and edited my poor choice of words. We should all appreciate the time and effort that goes into making mods like this and what an amazing thing it is for the community to have. Ur mod is indeed a brilliant mod that implemented a fix before mojang and that should be applauded

i've been looking for a solution temporary for months. I figured there must be a mod out there that tries to fix this and i finally found it a few minutes ago, I haven't played around with it for long and tried this mod with all features off except the "shift fix" feature which i left on and it seems to work. Use at your own risk, this is just a brilliant mod i found that seems to work for me

here's a link to the mod Giz5

Issue just got resolved for me as of newest update

i have the same issue, I described it in MCL-17136 . i have seen a lot of people with this issue on reddit too. Anyway, a work-around is to go into the minecraft folder, go into assets, indexes, then delete the .json files inside. This step needs to be repaeated each and every time before u launch minecraft otherwise it gets stuck indefinitely at preparing. Most reports of this issue just get marked as a duplicate of MCL-17030. The difference is that in MCL-17030 the launcher does load after a few hours, here it doesn't load at all.

After updating I'm still having the issue

I have the same issue with a few differences

1. It doesn't load past the preparing stage, meaning there isn't any loading bar at all regardless of how long I leave it for

2. This issue happened directly start updating the launcher (on Ubuntu 20.10)

3. The only way I can get it to launch is my deleting any item, from the assets folder. It could be one item or the whole assets folder.

4. I have to repeat point 3 every time I want to launch Minecraft, this is also a problem other Ubuntu users have expressed in Reddit and other platforms too.

*just writing this in case these are separate issues and not a duplicate issue, of course you are the expert but i thought this might help if you do find out they are different. Good luck solving the issue.

I think this could  be a separate issue to MCL-17030 for a few reasons. firstly MC launcher does not load at all as a pose to a gradual and extremely slow loading in MCL-17030, it does not reach the "download phase", only the "preparing phase", if i delete the 1.16.5.json file in indexes within the assest folder it loads without issue. with this issue the system does not recognise it as downloading while in MCL-17030 it does. The issue in MCL-17030 has been persistent since Feb 22 2021, while this issue has only been persistent since the 1st/2nd March. the issue i have seems to be duplicated of MCL-17131 rather than MCL-17030.

i have attached it @czarek-mojang

Exact same issue as you, I also opened this as an issue since I didn't see your comment. A temporary fix is to delete the assets folder and the launcher will start with download instead of preparing. I only experienced this issue after updating the launcher toady. I'm using Ubuntu.
