Yes! I was. It seems to have resolved itself.

It just now installed when I tried to install it. I had no issues installing Java or Bedrock.

I saw the MS Store app open in the background. Xbox also was running in the background and came into view in task manager because its CPU usage when up. I only saw the Xbox app while the MS Store launcher was installing. I saw the MS Store in the background processes for the majority of the time.

It was almost as though the launcher had a personality. It only installed just now when I was taking a screen recording so that bug hunters could see the process list in task manager if there were any problems that occurred.

I reinstalled the MS Store launcher and was able to download Java but get "Error" in the download progress bar when I try to download Bedrock. I got the same result with and without using the beta version of the launcher.

I'm about ready to give up.

Now I am trying to install the game but the text "Idle" has appeared in the download progress bar.

I am reinstalling the game. It will update but only if I log on weekly. But, the thing is, I sometimes don't log on weekly, so I'm pretty sure I'll keep having the issue again and again. Unless it's fixed.

The launcher just updated but the game didn't and is out of date. I am now using the MS store version of the launcher.

Nope. MS store is still not registering that there's an update.

I just enabled updates in the MS store. For some reason, MS store recognizes the launcher as being installed from MS store when I installed it from minecraft.net. I'll have to wait and see what it does.

Will I have to buy the game again?

Yes I did try reinstalling the game. It fixed the issue, but only temporarily. As soon as I got multiple updates behind after not opening the launcher for several weeks, the game would not update. How to recreate the bug: Get the game and don't play it for 2 months. There's not anything more I can say than that.

I'm using the launcher from minecraft.net. Not the MS store app. I don't use a VPN. I am signed into all Xbox and Microsoft apps with the same account. Xbox is up to date.

It's behavior likely shows that it is unable to consistently check for and/or recieve updates.

I forgot to mention my nonuse of the game & launcher for several months.

Okay. Well...I tried those solutions and it's still not working. And I haven't gotten any confirmation that this issue has been passed up the chain for investigation.

What does the XBox app have to do with the game updating? Please explain this. If you cannot, please request that someone else take this issue.

Why would I need to install xbox companion? I have the Xbox app for windows from the MS store (no indication in MS store that it could be updated). I searched for Xbox identity provider in MS store but found nothing.

Okay, It seems Java installed but not Bedrock. When I click the install button for Bedrock, I get no indication that the game is installing and it shows a grayed out play button.

I uninstalled the game and then reinstalled the launcher. The launcher updated successfully but would not install Bedrock. Wait...Wuh? Huh. It seems one must install Java for bedrock to update.

I have an iPhone 8 that used to be able to easily render 16 chunks before the update with C&C experimental features and a simulation distance of 6 chunks. Same thing happened to me. I have a fire tablet which has 1/10 the processing power and can handle 10 chunks. Both give me a consistent 12–30 fps, so I feel sad and annoyed because of the limit and compelled to make the argument that there isn't much reason behind it. The update makes worlds feel smaller to me rather than bigger. The processor in my phone could easily run Java edition. It more than meets minimum requirements. So could an iPhone SE (1st generation) which also meets JE minimum requirements. I bet my phone could render 20 chunks without the limit.

A link to a video of my pushing my device (an iPhone 8) to the limit, detonating 10,646 blocks of TNT: It wasn't able to record properly, but the game started running smoothly as soon as I killed all items.
