I reached out to Mojang support by email recently about this issue happening to me on Switch. I specifically wanted to ask if they were still aware of this issue and addressing it. They told me to try a few things specific to Switch system memory which did not resolve the problem, then said:
"I appreciate you trying all of the currently known fixes.
Unfortunately, specific technical issues are difficult to diagnose remotely due to differences with individual computers/settings, and other variables. As such, we are unable to provide individualized technical support, limiting our technical support to troubleshooting at this time.
We encourage you to visit our help center and FAQs; there are many troubleshooting guides that may be able to solve the issue you have reported. If those guides could not fix your issue, feel free to check out the bug tracker, where you can report the issue directly to the developers. We suggest searching for your issue prior to submitting a bug report, as it may have already been reported, and to avoid duplicates. Additional guidelines can be found here.
If you come across an existing bug report matching your issue, we encourage you to upvote the bug report and leave a comment if you have more information to provide, as well as checking back periodically to see if new information or a solution becomes available. Please note that we are unable to provide an estimate on when the issue will be resolved."
I assume at this point they are aware that this is an issue many people want to see fixed. No idea what the status is or if there will be a solution anytime soon, which is pretty frustrating to me. Though I know this likely isn't the case, it still feels as if the hundreds of hours of work my friends and I have put into our realm is being held hostage to keep me paying for the realms access. I get that there are real people working on fixing bugs and adding new features to the game, but this is still frustrating as a consumer to be under the impression that I was spending money on a service I'd get to keep access to by downloading the world, only to have that be incorrect.
