I doubt this is a bug, as there are a lot of "white map colors". And white candles aren't exactly the same color as wool to begin with, they are slightly darker in block form as well.
While this could be a cool feature, piglins still only to check to see if the player is wearing gold armor. Mojang has essentially stated that trims would be cosmetic only. This is less of a bug and more of a suggestion.
