Works as intended.
I don't think this is a bug, as sound has to come from a localised point (e.g. the player, a mob, a block) and in which case the command would play it at the specified point.
Experienced the same thing in SMP, sailed through the sea and "apparently" hit the shore and broke my boat, even though it was a good 10 blocks away. The items dropped in the place where the boat "crashed" and I was dumped into the sea.
Probably just ran out of memory.
I didn't know you could open local system files like that. I guess it makes sense though...
Download the most recent version of the launcher and try it again.
Is your game modded?
Horses are two blocks wide, therefore they cannot fit through a gate (being one block wide).

Correct. If you allow it time, the sand will break under the stress. Just place two repeaters side-by-side and manually light it.
