Firstly, I see the option to join their world and join. Secondly, a few seconds pass with the loading screen, (it appears as if everything is going accordingly) but then the entire screen fades to dirt with the the following words displayed: “Unable to connect to world” in which case the only option is to cancel and try again, only to yield the same results. I have checked my wi-fi on multiple occasions, (as others have suggested) only to find that it is working properly. My friend has done the same.

Happy to report that the problem has been solved. As it turns out, the local networking located in the settings app had been turned off as of a recent update to IOS. Upon returning the local network to its original “on” state the matter was resolved with little extra fuss.
