I had the same issue. The buckets return to you inventory in the same slot that the cake appears and the cake disappears.

I am having the same problem. Running on an iPad 14.2 OS. The loading screen stops after world selection and cycles through endless helpful hints. I left the iPad running and after, 20 minutes it finally loaded the world.
