I think it should be this way because IRL podzolization occurs from the leaves and now from the tree itself, doesn't it?

This bug is not completely resolved in 1.8. Iron golems still attack creepers at very close point blank range. Just create a sample creative world, then spawn a few iron golems and creepers and watch. Some creepers manage to explode and still cause terrain damage.

Happens in 1.8-pre3 as well. For example check this seed:
2829563899555941265.
The witch hut is near spawn point, at
XYZ: -172.692 / 74.03918/ 537.371

I am attaching two crash reports, one of for the world, originally mentioned in the bug report, created in Minecraft 1.4 (pretty scary update), survival mode.
That world had some flower pots which did not drop anything, but I have replaced them.

Second report is a creative test world I created in 1.4.7, then opened in 1.7.2. When breaking the block underneath the flower pot, it is dropping two entities, instead of one.

Nevermind, this bug is not related to the game itself.
I pruned the chunks using MCEdit, but the village data left from 1.6.4 caused the village to respawn.
