Sorry for not replying sooner (work and other stuff). A quick update regarding the above:
1. OptiFine no longer 'fixes' the error: when I reinstalled the mod some time in November, it caused the same faulty behaviour: the game will crash first time I launch it (from the new launcher), then on a second time, it will run fine. So ever since that point in November, whenever I launch the game, I need to launch it twice (annoying, but at least it works 🙂).
2. Since yesterday (February 14th, 2022) I no longer get the "exit code: 0" error message. The overall behaviour as described in my initial bug report remains the same, but I now get "exit code: -1073741819". I have looked up what I could find on this code: I do not use any recording software (D3DGear or something?) which seemed to cause this error.Â
