I had this issue today. I came online to fix it and kinda started freaking out when I saw all this stuff about resetting modems and server and extending ports and stuff. I ended up bringing it up in the Discord chat of the server I was trying to get on to see if anyone else was having the issue and get a feel for which comment the situation I was in was closest to.
Turns out the server is down. Nothing complex, the server is just down.
If you're having this issue, especially if it's only one server, I'd suggest hitting up a mod or admin if you can to see if it's as simple as that. Good luck to anyone whose situation isn't as simple as that.
