I have the same problem. Upload world to my Realm from 1.9 on Android, works fine there. I can play in the world in my real on Switch, but when I download it to the Switch (also 1.9) and try to open the world locally I get the "A newer version of the game ..." error message.
This also happens in 18w20b and 18w20c.
If you have a furnace in a pre-existing world that already has fuel in it, you can add items to be cooked/smelted, but you can't add fuel or remove cooked/smelted items.
Yeah, 9 iron is a big price for cake! 😛
Some form of this bug has existed for a long time. It used to be rare and unpredictable, but starting with 0.6.0 it has become much more common and predictable.

The corner issue again: Torches were attempted to be placed on the west facing surfaces, but landed on the north and south facing surfaces instead.

There are two different issues with torch placement. One is with placing them in corners, the other is with placing them in one block wide spaces. Both are directional. I'm judging direction by the 2x2 light colored block on the top of a stone block being toward the west. In corners, the torches will only go on north or south facing surfaces. In one block wide spaces, torches will only go on east and north facing surfaces. If you attempt to place one on one of the surfaces they won't go on, they will sort of ricochet off and land on the other surface. I'm attaching screen shots.
I'm seeing the same crash in 1.16.5 on Fedora 32. It happens when I come back from going AFK. It runs for a few seconds and then crashes with:
