I have this issue also, i bought realms today cause i finally convinced my friend to play Minecraft with me. so she bought the entire game today just to find out we can't play together.
I'm tried everything in this thread, re-installed Minecraft and java, deleting the appdata for Minecraft, disabling automatic updates. waiting and trying again. nothing is working.
