I tried to combine the netherite with a diamond sword. I have no problem crafting the other nether items, it's just the netherite tools, i can make blocks and ingots. Is combining tools not available until 1.16.2 for BR edition?

what biome is it? if there is a cave system right under you then yes, you will get cave sounds. It happens to me even when i am a little ways away.
It updated from 1.14.2 to 1.14.30 6 days ago and I haven’t been able to load it since

This type of glitch is known as a chunk glitch. usually caused by closing the game before it can save properly which corrupts the file you can search for more information about it here.

As a temporary fix for this world, you can use the fill command to replace the block with air. a tutorial for that is here
Well Isaac, I reported this bug on August 28, 2014, specifically for the third pre-release "before" 1.8 came out. Months later we are now in Minecraft version 1.8.3, so I think it's fair to say that after many updates with bug fixes since the date this report was posted, the bug no longer exists in my game.
